Bulgarian champion biathlete Krasimir Anev was brought out of a medically induced coma after being shot in the stomach. The Telegraph became aware of the condition.
The athlete’s personal trainer Georgy Furtunov said that Anev is better at the moment and has come to his senses. The specialist added that the Bulgarian cannot speak because he is intubated, but responds with gestures. “A lot has happened to him. Both personally and professionally,” he emphasized.
On November 1, Anev was found with a gunshot wound near a dam near the city of Kyustendil. He was sent to intensive care in serious condition. According to police, the biathlete shot himself in the stomach.
36-year-old Anev is the 2019 European champion in the individual race. He also has four silver and four bronze medals at the European Championships. The athlete twice became third at the World Summer Biathlon Championships. At the end of the 2019/2020 season, the Bulgarian retired.
