Oliveira spoke about a possible rematch with Makhachev in 2024

Oliveira said he had not heard about the UFC’s plans to arrange a fight with Makhachev in 2024

Brazilian mixed style (MMA) fighter Charles Oliveira spoke about a possible rematch with the Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev in 2024. His words are quoted by the ESPN MMA YouTube channel.

Oliveira said this is the first time he has heard about the UFC’s plans to stage a rematch in January 2024. “If this is Islam, how will the fight be different from the past? You will see the Charlie you always see! Who will always go forward, look for an opportunity for submission or knockout,” he added.

Earlier on November 5, journalist Ariel Helwani said that the UFC wants to hold a rematch between Oliveira and Makhachev on January 20, 2024 at the UFC 297 tournament in Toronto (Canada). It was noted that the fight is currently in development. Later, Makhachev’s manager denied this information.

Makhachev and Oliveira were supposed to meet on October 21 at UFC 294 in Abu Dhabi, but the Brazilian withdrew due to injury. As a result, the Russian athlete fought with Australian Alexander Volkanovski, knocking him out in the first round.

In total, the 31-year-old Russian had 26 fights in his career, in which he won 25 victories, losing only once. Oliveira has 31 wins and nine losses. Another fight with his participation was declared invalid.
