Lionel Messi expressed doubts that he will return to play in Europe
Argentine striker of the North American Major League Soccer (MLS) Inter Miami club Lionel Messi has ruled out a return to European football. His words are quoted by Fabrizio Romano on the social network X with reference to L’Équipé.
“I had an extraordinary career in Europe and won everything I dreamed of. Now that I have decided to come to the USA, I don’t think I will ever return to play in Europe,” the forward expressed doubts.
On October 30, the Argentine won the Ballon d’Or for the eighth time in his career. He previously won the trophy in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2019 and 2021.
Messi, currently playing for the American club Inter Miami, played for Barcelona until 2021. As part of the Catalans, he won the Spanish championship ten times and won the Champions League four times. The forward then moved to Paris Saint-Germain. His contract with the Parisians ran until June 2023 with an option to extend for one season.
