Guardiola cites difficulty in City’s victory

Manchester City had to wait for the second half and find themselves in the numerical superiority to beat wolverhampton by 1-0 and consolidate as leader of the Premier League, this Saturday, by the 16th round.

Apparently the game was under the control of the leader, but Wolverhampton (eighth with 21 points) proved to be well organized and with this City took a long time to find chances to score.

The course of the match changed at the end of the first half, when Mexican striker Raúl Jiménez was shown a yellow card for a foul on Spaniard Rodri, before stretching his leg to prevent a quick free kick, and was punished with a second yellow and ended up being expelled (45 + 3).

“Against 11 players we were better. It’s not easy to play against them with 10,” said coach Pep Guardiola. “They defended themselves very well. We suffered with them last season, for not attacking at the right times and they punish you. But we were patient and we deserved the victory,” added the coach.

The chances were clearer later, through Gabriel Jesus (46 and 80), Ilkay Güdongan, whose header was cleared by a defender on the goal line (55), Bernardo Silva (72) and Foden (89), who entered in field at 56 minutes.

But City had to settle for winning by a narrow margin, after a penalty scored by João Moutinho, who was converted by Raheem Sterling (66).

Guardiola praised the attacker. “Congratulations! He’s still a young player and 100 goals is a lot. His contribution to this club is huge. He’s back in goals, he has confidence. That’s good,” said the coach.

A save from goalkeeper Ederson, after a header by Max Kilman late in the match (90 + 2), allowed City to maintain their victory.

This triumph is far from being the most beautiful of the season, but in the end it will be important or decisive in the fight for the title.
