The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that the IOC’s approach is segregation based on nationality
The Russian Foreign Ministry accused the International Olympic Committee (IOC) of segregation based on nationality. This is reported on the ministry’s website.
The Foreign Ministry stated that the IOC’s approach cannot be regarded as anything other than segregation based on nationality, and therefore must be reviewed in accordance with the norms of international legal documents in the sports field and the spirit of the international Olympic movement.
“We demand that international sports organizations abandon this approach to the issue of the participation of national teams in the Olympics and adhere to the letter and norms of the provisions of the Olympic Charter, remembering the principle of “sport is beyond politics,” the department added.
On November 1, the IOC spoke out about the conflict between Israel and Palestine. In their opinion, athletes cannot be held responsible for the actions of their governments.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions.
