Samuel Eto’o, new president of the Cameroonian Football Federation

The former player was elected with 43 votes, ahead of the outgoing president, who received 31.

Former international soccer player Samuel Eto’o was elected president, to the general surprise, of the Cameroonian Football Federation, Fecafoot herself announced this Saturday.

Samuel Eto’s beat the outgoing president, Seidou Mbombo Njoya, who had been elected in 2018, but his election, contested by several Cameroonian football players, was annulled in mid-January by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The former player was chosen with 43 votes, ahead of the outgoing president, who received 31.

During the presentation of his candidacy, on November 17, Samuel Eto’o had assured that he would be the next president of the Cameroonian Football Federation “despite the traps”.

In 2018, Eto’o had supported the candidacy of Seidou Mbombo Njoya, but today he expresses his “disappointment”. The promises made three years ago by the outgoing president “seemed to me worthy of interest for the future of our country,” he justified himself.

Cameroon will host the final phase of the Africa Cup of Nations from January 9 to February 7, 2022. (D)
