SANTIAGO

She was unable to reach the podium in the 200m and 4x100m athletics events that the Ecuadorian team of Ecuador participated in at the National Stadium for the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.

In the 200 meters, Anahí Suárez finished in fourth place, recording 23 seconds and 67 hundredths of a second; and Aimara Nazareno was disqualified for false starts.

Dominican Marileidy Paulino, the 400m world champion and two-time Olympic silver medalist, won the gold with a time of 22.74. He already has two golds: he won the first in the 4×400 medley relay.

Paulino won the event by beating the 100m champion in these events, Cuban Yunisleidy García, who clocked 23.33; and Brazilian Ana Carolina De Jesús with 23.52.

Sixth was the Mexican Cecilia Tamayo, who is coached by the legendary American athlete Carl Lewis (23.93).

In the 4×100

The representative of Ecuador, consisting of Gabriela Suárez, Nicole Caicedo, Aimara Nazareno and Nicole Chalá, placed fourth with a time of 44.67.

The Cuban quartet, led by Yarima García, dominated the competition with 43.72, followed by the Chileans inspired by running in front of their wildly cheering crowd, as they do every time the home team takes to the track, to take second place with 44.19, ahead of the Dominicans led Paulin, who a few minutes earlier ran 200 meters and won bronze with 44.32.

Madness in the stands with an ecstatic fan with his four ‘cougars’ on the field who broke the national record for the second time in the night and who defeated a strong Dominican team, none other than Paulino. (D)
