TASS: 75 Russian athletes are serving doping bans

As of November 2, 75 Russian track and field athletes are serving suspensions for violating anti-doping rules. The number of such athletes was calculated by the Independent Anti-Doping Organization in Athletics (AIU), cited by TASS.

Many of these athletes completed their careers, six were suspended from the sport for life. These are representatives of race walking Stanislav Emelyanov, Igor Erokhin and Sergei Morozov, runner Natalya Shekhodanova, javelin thrower Lada Chernova and shot putter Irina Korzhanenko.

In addition to the athletes, eight Russian coaches are serving disqualifications, three of them have lifelong suspensions. These are Viktor Chegin, Vladimir Kazarin and Alexey Melnikov. In addition, the former head of the All-Russian Athletics Federation (ARAF) Valentin Balakhnichev was disqualified for life.

In 2015, ARAF’s membership in the World Athletics Association was suspended due to systematic violations of anti-doping rules by Russians. Domestic athletes could compete in international competitions only after receiving individual permits and in a neutral status.
