The Russian biathlete was officially deprived of the medals of the Sochi Olympics

The International Biathlon Union (IBU) has canceled the results of Russian biathlete Olga Zaitseva at the Sochi Olympics. This was reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the organization.

Thus, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) officially redistributed the awards for the women’s biathlon relay at the 2014 Olympics and deprived Zaitseva of the silver medal. According to the updated protocols, the second place went to the Norwegian team.

In the summer of 2020, the German edition of Der Spiegel reported the discovery of male DNA in a doping sample of a Russian woman from October 2014. The forensic medical examination allegedly established that it was the DNA of Zaitseva’s husband.

At the end of 2017, Zaitseva and two other Russian biathletes Yana Romanova and Olga Vilukhina were disqualified for life on charges of violating anti-doping rules. It was then that the athletes took away the silver won at the 2014 Games in the biathlon relay.

In 2014, Zaitseva stopped performing. In January 2015, she announced the end of her sports career.

Zaitseva has two Olympic gold medals. She has won awards at the Vancouver and Turin Olympics.
