FIFA punishes former head of Spanish football Rubiales

FIFA has suspended Luis Rubiales from football activities for three years

The International Football Federation (FIFA) has punished the former head of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Luis Rubiales. This is reported on the organization’s website.

The FIFA Disciplinary Committee suspended Rubiales from football activities for three years. “FIFA reaffirms its absolute commitment to respecting and protecting the integrity of all people and ensuring that the fundamental rules of decent conduct are respected,” the statement said.

On September 8, Spanish prosecutors filed a lawsuit against Rubiales. The former head of the RFEF, who kissed the country’s women’s team captain Jennifer Hermoso at the 2023 World Cup, has been charged with sexual assault and coercion.

At the awards ceremony, Rubiales put a medal on Hermoso and kissed the soccer player on the lips. This drew criticism from the media and Spanish politicians. After the scandal, Rubiales apologized and said that he did it without malicious intent.
