Coach of the Ukrainian judo team Dubrova: I regret that the Russians were allowed to participate in the European Championships
The head coach of the Ukrainian judo team, Vitaly Dubrova, spoke about the admission of Russians to the European Championship. His words are quoted by Ua.tribuna.com.
The specialist drew attention to the fact that many European countries, in particular the Czech Republic and the Netherlands, refused to issue visas to Russians to participate in tournaments. “Unfortunately, France for some reason allowed them,” he said.
On October 2, the President of the Judo Federation of Ukraine, Mikhail Koshlyak, said that the team decided to boycott the World Junior Championships because of the admission of Russians to it. He emphasized that judo teaches you to respect your opponent and demonstrate this respect on the tatami, but in the current realities this is impossible.
The return of Russian judokas to tournaments became known on April 29. The International Judo Federation (IJF) said it opposes discrimination in the sport.
