Olympic champion Nagorny: sanctions against Russians show the incompetence of the IOC
Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Nikita Nagorny spoke about the sanctions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) against the Russians. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to the gymnast, such decisions show the incompetence of the IOC leaders. “We are athletes, we do our job, we train, we are in limbo, and if you are the head of the IOC, then make a decision whether to allow it or not,” he said.
Nagorny noted that sanctions are a reason to discuss the Games. “Now, Russians and Belarusians are not allowed, and articles appear on this topic. Look how many times over these two years articles have appeared about our admission or non-admission – almost every two to three months,” he added.
On March 28, the IOC recommended allowing Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions. However, the final decision on the participation of Russians in the 2024 Games in Paris has not been made.
