Vice-President of the RFU Soloviev does not see opportunities for the national team to participate in the 2026 World Cup
Vice-President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Denis Solovyov assessed the country’s national team’s chances of taking part in the 2026 World Cup. RB-Sport reports this.
He noted that he does not see any objective possibilities for this. “There is a place for miracles in life,” Soloviev added.
The functionary also spoke about the possible transfer of the RFU from UEFA to the Asian Confederation. “My position is extremely simple. If UEFA is not waiting for us, we cannot be in limbo, we must look for options. Perhaps we are not welcome in Asia. But let’s ask the question and hear the answer,” he said.
In February 2022, FIFA and UEFA excluded Russian national teams and clubs from international tournaments. Teams do not compete in European competitions, and the Russian national team has lost the opportunity to fight for access to the finals of the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024.
