Fitness trainer Prygunov: rest between approaches depends on the difficulty of the exercise

Fitness trainer, master of sports in bodybuilding Mikhail Prygunov named the optimal rest interval between approaches. His words are reported by Sport Express.

Prygunov said that the rest time should vary depending on the difficulty of the exercise. Thus, the break between sets of simple, single-joint exercises involving a small muscle group should be 45-60 seconds. “If you use several different muscle groups to perform an exercise, you will need more rest time. For example, when doing squats or bench presses, you need to rest between approaches for two to three minutes,” the specialist explained.

Prygunov also recommended not to be distracted by the phone during rest. “Walk and breathe deeply, do some light stretching. When working on muscle growth, shake out your arms or legs,” he suggested.

Earlier, eight-time Russian weightlifting champion Mikhail Koklyaev named six signs of proper training. According to him, after a good workout, muscle fatigue is felt, but in general the quality of sleep and stamina improves, appetite improves, muscle volume increases and a surge of strength is felt in the morning.
