Boxer Mike Tyson: there will be no fight against Fedor Emelianenko, as he is my idol
Former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson explained his refusal to fight with Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Fedor Emelianenko. His words are quoted in the Ushatayka Telegram channel with reference to a press conference in Riyadh.
The 57-year-old athlete said that there will be no fight according to boxing rules against 47-year-old Emelianenko. The reason was that the Russian is one of Tyson’s idols.
On February 5, Fedor Emelianenko lost to Ryan Bader by knockout in the first round. The fight, which headed the Bellator 290 tournament and became the farewell for the Russian, took place in the heavyweight division. At stake was the title of the organization’s champion, which was owned by the American.
The last time Tyson entered the ring against compatriot Roy Jones was in 2020. The fight ended in a draw. This performance was Tyson’s first in 15 years. In 2005, he was defeated by Kevin McBride.
