Tikhonov proposed cutting funding for Russian football by 70 percent
Four-time Olympic champion in biathlon Alexander Tikhonov proposed cutting funding for Russian football by 70 percent. His words are quoted by Metaratings.
Tikhonov drew attention to the fact that in all regions where hockey competitions are held, the stands are highly occupied, unlike Russian football. “A lot of money is spent there. We need to take away 70 percent of their funding – and there will be enough for all sports,” he said.
In 2020, Tikhonov called Russian football a disgrace. In his opinion, football players need criticism, but no one criticizes them.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have suspended Russian clubs and national teams from participating in tournaments under their auspices. This decision was made against the backdrop of a Russian special operation on the territory of Ukraine.
