The RFU stated that it is ready to host the European Football Championship in 2036 and 2040
General Secretary of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov said that the country is ready to host the European Championship. His words are quoted by Match TV.
Mitrofanov considered that Russia is quite capable of hosting the tournaments in 2036 and 2040 and is ready to submit an application at any time. In his opinion, with their competitions, the Russians proved that they can organize the best competition that took place in world history.
Russia submitted a double bid to host the Euro in 2028 and 2032, but the executive committee of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) declared it unsuitable. As a result, it was decided to hold the 2028 tournament in Great Britain and Ireland.
The International Football Federation (FIFA) and UEFA have suspended Russian clubs and national teams from participating in tournaments under their auspices. This decision was made against the backdrop of a Russian special operation on the territory of Ukraine.
