Maxim Rybin said that young Russian hockey players want to play in the NHL
Former forward of the Russian national team Maxim Rybin appreciated the idea of the Ministry of Sports and the State Duma to limit the travel of talented hockey players abroad. RT reports this.
According to the ex-forward, officials in this situation pay too much attention to agency actions. “Part of this is understandable, but, understand, all young hockey players now are trying to chase their dream of playing in the NHL. Is it worth completely protecting travel abroad? Most likely not,” Rybin noted.
The former player added that some of the people in favor of restrictions themselves played in North America. “We, of course, strive to match our competitors, but for a minute, the 107th regular season has begun in the NHL,” Rybin said.
On October 21, Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin said that the department, together with the State Duma, would develop restrictions on the travel of talented Russian hockey players abroad. “Let’s see how we can protect the interests of Russian hockey, athletes, coaches and sports schools in order to limit the departure of talented athletes,” he said.
On October 19, Russian President Vladimir Putin called for an investigation into the transfers of young Russian hockey players to foreign clubs. “We need to understand what we should do with these hockey businessmen who take children from sports schools and drag them abroad,” said the head of state.
