Athletic incorporates Iñigo San Millán, Pogacar physiologist, as Performance Director
The physiologist Inigo San Millanperformance director for four years at Tadej Pogacar’s UAE Emirates cycling team, will be the head of the Athletic Club’s High Performance department, as announced this Tuesday by the red and white club.
San Millán will have Jon Larruskain as his deputy and will head this High Performance section made up of five main areas “that already work in a coordinated manner” such as Physics and Conditioning, Psychology and Comprehensive Player Care, Nutrition, Sports Science and the services club doctors.
His “main” function at Athletic will be to lead a department that aims to “maximize the conditions and sporting performance of the footballers – in the men’s and women’s first teams and in the development of the players in Lezama – in “everything that exceeds the scope of work of the coaches/trainers”.
The Athletic clarifies that, in addition to taking care of his new work at the red and white club, “given his commitments acquired prior to his arrival, San Millán will finish attending to his teaching and research obligations at the University of Colorado” until next May 2024, which will be when he will leave “his work as a teacher and researcher in the United States.”
