Lithuanian national football player Lasickas called on fans to chant chants about Putin

Lithuanian national team midfielder Justas Lasickas on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned) appreciated that the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) fined the country’s Football Federation for fan chants directed against Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The footballer urged fans to continue chanting. “We will pay the fines with our bonuses if we have to,” he said.

On October 23, the president of the Lithuanian Football Federation, Edgaras Stankevicius, said that the organization would have to pay ten thousand euros. He said that a complaint against the fans was filed by a delegate from Kazakhstan, who was at the Lithuania-Serbia match. Stankevicius called the chances of success in case of an appeal low.

The offensive chant was heard during the 2024 European Championship qualifying match between Lithuania and Serbia, which took place on September 10 and ended with a score of 1:3. The delegate of the match was the representative of Kazakhstan Kuanysh Kanapyanov.
