The RFU assessed the chances of admitting the Russian youth team to tournaments

Alaev said that he does not believe in the admission of the Russian youth team to tournaments

Vice-President of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Alexander Alaev assessed the chances of admission of the Russian youth team to international tournaments. His words are reported by TASS.

Alaev said that the decision of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) initially seemed strange to him. “We have returned to the point where, as I understand it, the issue is not closed. Let’s hope, although I didn’t believe in this decision and still don’t believe it,” Alaev said.

On October 10, it became known that the decision of the UEFA executive committee on the admission of Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to international tournaments was canceled. UEFA First Vice-President Karl-Erik Nilsson explained that it was not practical to return Russian teams.

On September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian youths to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. After this, some countries, including Ukraine and England, announced their intention to boycott matches with Russian teams.
