After a high shot from Guevara, Jorgensen once again rescued Villarreal, now by clearing with his feet a shot from Rioja in the midst of Alavés’ harassment.

Only in the last moments of the first half were Pacheta’s team able to get rid of their rival and take the game to the opposite field, although without any option to put Sivera in trouble.

After the break, Villarreal came out determined to change the course of the game with a more offensive pose. Already in the first minute of play, Sorloth collected an assist from Pedraza to finish just past the top corner.

Alavés’ response could not have been more forceful. Guiridi detected the space in the local defense and served a ball behind the central defenders so that Samu Omorodion battery to Jorgensen on his way out (0-1).
