Izvestia: MMA fighter Yakubov was detained for publicly justifying terrorism

A man was detained in Moscow on charges of publicly justifying terrorist activities. The capital’s headquarters of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia reported this on Telegram.

According to the investigation, the accused in October 2023 “made a video recording with statements justifying the need to carry out terrorist activities and published it on social networks.” It is noted that he was previously put on the federal wanted list.

As Izvestia learned, we are talking about the Russian mixed style (MMA) fighter Ilyas Yakubov. The athlete previously posted a video recording, accompanied by statements from terrorist Shamil Basayev.

“In the near future, the investigation intends to petition the Chertanovo court to select a preventive measure for the defendant in the form of detention,” the Investigative Committee emphasized.

31-year-old Yakubov last fought in February 2022. Then at the MMA Series 49 tournament he defeated Roman Karasev.
