The head coach of the Russian national rugby team, Alexander Pervukhin, said that his work has lost its meaning. His words are quoted by Gazeta.Ru.
The specialist explained that he sees no point in his activities in the current situation, when the national team is suspended from international tournaments. “If we don’t establish international contacts over the next year, then there is no point in gathering these 27-year-old guys, we need to gather young people,” he considered.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in tournaments.
On March 1, 2022, the International Rugby Federation (World Rugby) suspended the Russian and Belarusian national teams from competitions under its auspices. It was noted that the decision is valid until further notice.
