Former UFC champion Khabib Nurmagomedov said he has finally left MMA
Former champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned) announced a final break with mixed martial arts (MMA).
The athlete stated that he had completely abandoned everything related to MMA and asked for understanding of his decision. “What our team has achieved will forever be in the history of this sport,” he emphasized, calling compatriot Islam Makhachev the best fighter in the world after he defended his UFC lightweight title.
Nurmagomedov defended his UFC lightweight title three times before retiring in 2020. In total, the athlete won 29 victories in 29 professional fights in mixed martial arts.
After finishing his performances, Nurmagomedov began coaching. In 2022, he was named the best trainer of the year according to MMA Junkie.
