American fitness coach Phil Daru admits that his ward mixed-style fighter (MMA) Dustin Poirier may retire after a fight against Charles Oliveira. Reported by BJPenn.com.
The mentor of the 32-year-old American is convinced that Poirier, in case of a victory over Oliveira, will achieve a sufficient result in sports. “I will not be angry if after such success he decides to end the performances. Dustin has nothing to prove, ”he said.
Poirier and Oliveira’s bout will headline the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) in Las Vegas on December 12th. The American again got the chance to fight for the organization’s lightweight title. Oliveira will face the first defense after winning the belt.
Poirier fought for the title with Russian Khabib Nurmagomedov in the fall of 2019. Then the reigning champion forced the American to surrender, using a choke hold. Poirier fought as the interim UFC lightweight champion.
