Champion synchronized swimmer Kolesnichenko: football players’ salaries are higher due to PR
Three-time Olympic champion Svetlana Kolesnichenko compared salaries in synchronized swimming and football. Her words are quoted by Sport24.
The synchronized swimmer explained that the salaries of football players are higher because it is a more publicized sport. “Football is a mass sport with a huge number of fans. It’s a national sport. Unfortunately, synchronized swimming is not like that,” she noted.
Kolesnichenko added that she didn’t come to synchronized swimming for the money. “But I have a normal salary, I’m not complaining,” she concluded.
Kolesnichenko won two gold medals at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. The athlete won the duet tournament paired with Svetlana Romashina. Kolesnichenko also won the group competition. She won her first gold medal at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
