Olympic champion Valery Kamensky called for Ovechkin to be allowed to play in peace

Olympic hockey champion and Stanley Cup winner Valery Kamensky spoke about the low performance of Russian Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin at the start of the National Hockey League (NHL) season. This is reported by Metaratings.

The ex-forward called for letting his compatriot play in peace. “A man is not a machine. He doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone, he has already proven everything to everyone. It’s just the beginning of the season, it happens. This is a normal phenomenon,” Kamensky noted.

Kamensky also refused to link Ovechkin’s lack of goals with the weak play of his partners. “You have to look at it seasonally. The team is playing well. The opponents may be uncomfortable for now. The analysis is done after the season,” the specialist added.

Ovechkin played three matches in the NHL regular season this season, in which he scored one assist. In the last two games, the Russian did not make a single shot at the opponent’s goal, which happened to him for the first time in his career.
