Nice suspended footballer Youssef Atal from training for supporting Palestine
The French football club Nice has decided to punish Algerian team and national team defender Youssef Atal for publishing a video in support of Palestine. This was reported on the Nice website.
The player has been suspended from training with the club until further notice. Nice emphasized that they took into account Atal’s apology, but decided to take disciplinary measures against him before the country’s sports and judicial authorities could do so.
On October 15, Atal apologized for posting the video and deleted it. The athlete said that his publication could shock some people, but this was not his intention.
Earlier, the 27-year-old defender published a video in support of the Palestinian people. The footballer also posted photos wearing an Algerian national team T-shirt and a scarf in the colors of Palestine. He later deleted these posts.
On October 7, Palestinian radicals from the Gaza Strip fired rockets into Israel. In response, the army launched a military operation in Gaza.
