The RFU spoke about working with UEFA on the admission of junior teams to tournaments

Mitrofanov said that the RFU continues to work with UEFA on the admission of junior teams

General Secretary of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov commented on cooperation with the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) on the issue of admitting Russian junior teams to tournaments. His words are reported by TASS.

Mitrofanov said that work with UEFA continues. “Let’s be clear that UEFA made a decision on the admission of our juniors and instructed the administration to find an opportunity to implement it, and this decision was not canceled. The fact that the issue was not considered at the last executive committee does not mean that the decision was canceled,” he explained.

On October 10, it was reported that the decision of the UEFA executive committee on the admission of Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to international tournaments was canceled. The first vice-president of the organization, Karl-Erik Nilsson, said that it is not advisable to return Russian teams.

On September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian youths to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. After this, some countries, including Ukraine and England, announced their intention to boycott matches with Russian teams.
