Makhachev said he wants a welterweight fight if he defeats Volkanovski
Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev spoke about his plans for the future if he defeats Australian Alexander Volkanovski. The athlete’s words are quoted by TASS.
“To make history, I need a second title. I think I’ll even go to the fight [Леон] Edwards – [Колби] Covington,” Makhachev said. He called Edwards the favorite in this fight, but noted that he would be more interested in fighting Covington at welterweight.
The fight between Makhachev and Volkanovski at UFC 294 will take place on October 21 in Abu Dhabi. The main card starts at 21:00 Moscow time, five fights are planned within its framework, Makhachev and Volkanovski will be the last to enter the octagon. In this fight, the Russian will defend the UFC lightweight champion title.
In total, the 31-year-old Russian had 25 fights in his career, in which he won 24 victories and was defeated only once. The 35-year-old Volkanovski has 26 wins and two losses.
