The father of a football player who fled from Ukraine revealed his plans

The father of Rasputko, who escaped from Ukraine, said that the football player is safer in Russia

The father of Ukrainian Shakhtar football player Alexander Rasputko, Yuri, revealed the athlete’s plans for the future. His words are quoted by Regnum.

“The information about asking for political asylum is not true. My son didn’t ask for it. He will simply apply for a Russian passport, as he would have done in his homeland in Donetsk,” said Rasputko Sr. He noted that the football player would be safer in Russia, but did not talk about the reasons for his son’s departure from Ukraine.

On October 13, it became known that Rasputko disappeared at the airport after a UEFA Youth League match in Belgium on October 4. It was also reported that the athlete asked for political asylum in Russia. The footballer’s pro-Russian position was cited as one of the reasons for his escape.

Shakhtar stated that they sent him an official letter demanding that he return to the team’s location within five days. The club emphasized that if there were prerequisites for escape, the player would have remained in Ukraine and would not have gone to the match abroad.
