Mitrofanov called the news about the cancellation of UEFA’s decision on the admission of Russians a hoax
General Secretary of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Maxim Mitrofanov called the news about the cancellation of the decision of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) on the admission of Russian youth teams to tournaments as a hoax. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“There is an order from the UEFA executive committee to work out this possibility, to work out the whole situation technically – with which countries, in which basket, in what time frame,” Mitrofanov added.
On October 10, it became known that the decision of the UEFA executive committee on the admission of Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to international tournaments was canceled. UEFA First Vice-President Karl-Erik Nilsson explained that it was not practical to return Russian teams.
On September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian youths to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. After this, some countries, including Ukraine and England, announced their intention to boycott matches with Russian teams.
