Islam Makhachev called the fight with Alexander Volkanovski the most difficult in his career
Russian champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Islam Makhachev called the fight with Australian mixed style fighter (MMA) Alexander Volkanovski the most difficult in his career. His words are quoted by the UFC Eurasia YouTube channel.
The athlete explained that this fight was so difficult for him because it was the first time in his life that he fought all five rounds. “Some people say the fight was close because they only saw the last minute. But people who understand MMA know that I won by unanimous decision,” said Makhachev.
On October 11, it became known that Volkanovski would replace the injured Brazilian Charles Oliveira in Makhachev’s next fight. The fight between the Russian and the Australian will take place on October 21 at the UFC 294 tournament in Abu Dhabi.
Volkanovski and Makhachev already met in the Octagon in February 2023. In that fight, the Russian won by unanimous decision.
In total, the 31-year-old Russian had 25 fights in his career, in which he won 24 victories and was defeated only once. The 35-year-old Volkanovski has 26 wins and two losses.
