The IOC will deprive countries of the right to host the Games that block the participation of Russians in tournaments
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will deprive countries that block the participation of Russians in competitions of the right to host the Olympics. RIA Novosti reports this.
The head of the IOC commission for choosing the venue for the Olympics, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, explained that this is a violation of the Olympic Charter. She noted that the decision to determine the location of the 2036 Summer Games will be made no earlier than 2026 or 2027.
Earlier on October 15, James McLeod, director of the Department of Relations with National Olympic Committees of the IOC, condemned calls for the complete suspension of Russian athletes. He also expressed disapproval of the refusal of a number of countries to issue visas to Russian athletes to participate in competitions.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who do not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. However, athletes associated with the armed forces or security forces of their countries are recommended not to be allowed to participate in tournaments.
