The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, wanted to organize the Olympic eSports Games. TASS reports this.
The functionary noted that he asked a special commission to study this issue. “About 3 billion people play computer games. Of these, more than 500 million are interested in esports,” Bach said.
On September 27, e-sportsmen Daniil “Putrick” Abdrakhmanov and Egor “Swizzy” Lusiko lost a prize of $200 thousand due to their Russian citizenship. They won the Fortnite championship, but Epic Games, the company that organizes the tournaments, disqualified them and refused to pay the reward.
In June 2016, eSports was officially recognized as a sport in Russia. He returned to the All-Russian register of sports after being expelled in July 2006 by the then head of the Ministry of Sports, Vyacheslav Fetisov.
