State Duma deputy Zhurova: an escaped Ukrainian football player can be accepted into Russian clubs

Ukrainian football player Alexander Rasputko, who fled to Russia, may be accepted into Russian clubs if his level of play is appropriate. At the same time, it seems unlikely that the athlete decided to take such a step without agreeing with the club in advance. State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova stated this in a conversation with Lenta.ru.

“If it turns out that this information is true, that the athlete really fled to Russia, I think some club will be able to accept him and they will provide him with assistance. It is clear that there must be an appropriate level of play; we will have to look at where exactly it will be useful. This is a sport, and the value of a player is assessed by his usefulness, and not by where he ran from or to,” the deputy noted.

She also added that Ukrainian football players, as a rule, demonstrate a good level of play.

“It’s like before, in Soviet times, our hockey players fled to the States. They agreed in advance. No one will just run away to the bare ground. In any case, I think we will soon find out the details,” concluded Zhurova.

It was previously reported that on October 4, after a UEFA Youth League match in Belgium, a 19-year-old athlete disappeared in an unknown direction. Only the football player’s uniform was found at the airport.
