The WBA rejected the appeal and confirmed the victory of Ukrainian Usik over Briton Dubois
The World Boxing Association (WBA) confirmed the result of the fight between Ukrainian Alexander Usik and Briton Daniel Dubois. This is reported on the organization’s website.
“After studying all the documents, the conclusions of all authorities and checking compliance with the WBA rules, it was decided that the appeal is rejected and the result of the fight is the victory of Usik, who defended the championship title,” the statement says.
Usyk defeated Dubois on August 27. The referee recorded the Ukrainian’s victory by technical knockout in the ninth round. At the same time, in the fifth round, Dubois struck Usyk in the abdominal area, which the judge considered an illegal blow below the belt. In total, 36-year-old Usik won 21 victories in his career without losing once. The Ukrainian defended his World Boxing Organization (WBO), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and International Boxing Organization (IBO) heavyweight championship belts. 26-year-old Dubois lost for the second time, he has 19 victories.
