Russian goalkeeper sets New York Rangers record

Russian goalkeeper Shesterkin is the fastest to reach 100 wins in the NHL faster than anyone else on the Rangers.

The New York Rangers defeated the Buffalo Sabers in a regular season match of the National Hockey League (NHL). This was reported by a Lenta.ru correspondent.

The meeting ended with a score of 5:1. In goal for the Rangers was Russian goaltender Igor Shesterkin, who set a new club record – the fastest to reach 100 victories in the NHL. For the Russian, this game was the 159th in his league career. In addition, Shesterkin became the seventh goalie in NHL history to score 100 wins in less than 160 league championship games.

In the 2021/2022 season, Shesterkin won the Vezina Trophy for the best goalkeeper in the NHL. He beat out Juuse Saros of the Nashville Predators and Jacob Markstrom of the Calgary Flames for the award.

27-year-old Shesterkin has been playing in the NHL since 2020. He spent all seasons with the Rangers.
