Journalist McIndoe: Russian Ovechkin will approach Gretzky’s record by half
Journalist Sean McIndoe made a forecast for Russian Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin’s pursuit of Canadian Wayne Gretzky’s record. His words are quoted on The Athletic website.
McIndoe suggested that Ovechkin would approach half of Gretzky’s performance. “All eyes are on Alexander Ovechkin, who is 72 goals behind Wayne Gretzky’s record. This season he will score exactly half of them,” he said.
Ovechkin ranks second on the list of leading scorers in NHL history behind Gretzky. The Russian has 822 goals scored. He surpassed Canadian Gordie Howe, who was in third place, in this indicator.
Ovechkin has played in the NHL since 2005. He spent all seasons in North America with Washington. Together with the club, the hockey player won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
