Oleg Matytsin said that the IOC is losing authority and independence
Russian Sports Minister Oleg Matytsin commented on the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC). His words are quoted by Match TV.
“By making such decisions, the IOC demonstrates total dependence on political and business conditions, losing authority and independence,” Matytsin said. He emphasized that the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions are regions of the Russian Federation and their athletes have equal opportunities to participate in competitions in Russia.

Earlier on October 12, the IOC suspended the ROC until further notice due to the inclusion of representative offices of the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions in the organization. “The ROC can no longer act as a National Olympic Committee and receive funds from the IOC,” explained IOC Communications Director Mark Adams.
On March 28, the IOC recommended that Belarusians and Russians who do not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. However, athletes associated with the armed forces or security forces of their countries are recommended not to be allowed to participate in tournaments.
