Oliveira explained his withdrawal from the fight against Makhachev in the UFC

Oliveira said he pulled out of a UFC fight due to a cut and nine stitches.

Brazilian mixed style fighter (MMA) Charles Oliveira spoke on Instagram (the social network is banned in the Russian Federation; it belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned)why he withdrew from the rematch against Russian Islam Makhachev in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

Oliveira explained that he suffered a facial injury during the last training session in Brazil before flying to the UAE. “I can’t fly with such a serious cut. I had nine stitches, I’m not sure I can heal it in such a short time and show an excellent result,” the fighter said. The athlete added that many people condemn him, but he cannot go into this fight not 100 percent prepared.

Oliveira’s withdrawal from the fight became known earlier on October 11. He will be replaced by Australian Alexander Volkanovski, UFC featherweight champion.

Volkanovski and Makhachev already met in the Octagon in February 2023. Then the Russian won by unanimous decision.

In total, Makhachev had 25 fights in his career, in which he won 24 victories and suffered one defeat. Volkanovski has 26 wins and two losses.
