UEFA announced an impasse on the issue of admitting Russian junior teams to tournaments
First Vice-President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Swede Karl-Erik Nilsson, said that the issue of admitting Russian teams to international tournaments has reached a dead end. His words are quoted by SVT.
Nilsson stressed that UEFA’s position has become such that it is inappropriate to welcome Russian teams. “That is, the issue was simply removed from the agenda today without any discussion. So a discussion about any form of Russian participation in UEFA tournaments is impossible,” he added.
Earlier on October 10, it became known that the decision of the UEFA executive committee on the admission of Russian national teams among players under 17 years of age to international competitions was canceled. According to British journalist Rob Harris, the organization was unable to find a technical solution that would allow Russian teams to compete.
On September 26, the UEFA Executive Committee proposed allowing Russian youths to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. After this, some countries, including Ukraine and England, announced their intention to boycott matches with Russian teams.
