Kostomarov spoke about the difficulties of skating with prosthetics on the ice

Figure skater Roman Kostomarov said that he needs to choose skates to fit his prosthesis

Olympic champion Roman Kostomarov spoke about the difficulties of skating on the ice with prosthetics. His words are quoted by TASS.

“We need to pick up more boots, skates and somehow adapt to the current prosthesis, since figure skating without an ankle is quite problematic. All the subtle elements that you can perform on the ice are achieved through many years of training and many years of working those muscles that I directly lost,” he said. The athlete shared that he has not yet tested the new skates.

Earlier, Kostomarov said that he had set himself the goal of returning to the ice. “How will it work out? Don’t know. But I know for sure that I will make it,” said the Olympic champion in ice dancing. At the moment, he continues his recovery, works out with rehabilitation specialists in the gym and goes to the pool.

Kostomarov was hospitalized on January 10 with pneumonia and influenza B. Due to prolonged connection to a blood oxygenation machine and a ventilator, his tissue began to die. Doctors amputated both feet of the skater, then the shins of both legs, the entire hand of his right hand and several fingers of his left.
