RFU: friendly matches of the national team with Iran and Iraq are included in the FIFA rankings
The Russian Football Union (RFU) told which friendly matches of the Russian national team, after being removed from official tournaments, counted toward the International Football Federation (FIFA) rankings. Quotes the RFU communications service “Championship”.
“All friendly matches of the national team during this period counted towards the FIFA rankings, except for games with Kyrgyzstan, Egypt and Qatar,” the RFU said. Thus, the team will receive points for meetings with Iran, Iraq, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
In October, the Russian team will play two more international matches. On October 16, the team will play against Kenya in Turkey. Four days earlier, Russia was scheduled to meet Cameroon in Moscow.
On February 28, 2022, FIFA and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) excluded Russian national teams and clubs from international tournaments. Teams do not compete in European competitions, and the Russian national team has lost the opportunity to fight for access to the final part of the 2022 World Cup.
