The International Skating Union upheld the suspension of Russians
The International Skating Union (ISU) upheld the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes. This is reported on the organization’s website.
The organization’s council stated that it will continue to monitor the situation in Ukraine and its impact on the activities of the union, as well as decisions and their implementation within the framework of the Olympic movement. It is noted that sanctions against Russian and Belarusian athletes will continue to work.
On October 7 and 8, the ISU Council was held, one of the tasks of which was to discuss the possibility of the Russian and Belarus national teams returning to international competitions. The president of the Russian Skating Union, Nikolai Gulyaev, said that as a result the organization did not discuss this issue.
On March 1, 2022, the ISU banned Russians and Belarusians from participating in competitions under its auspices. Because of the sanctions, figure skaters, speed skaters and short track speed skaters were unable to take part in the World and European Championships and other international tournaments.
