Forbes named Alexander Ovechkin the highest paid NHL player

Russian forward of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin was named the highest paid player in the National Hockey League (NHL). The rating is presented on the Forbes website.

According to the publication, in the 2022/2023 season, Ovechkin received a total of $17.5 million excluding taxes and agency fees: $12.5 million in salary and bonuses, he earned about five million more dollars from advertising contracts and licensing and other business projects. The first place in the ranking of the highest paid players in the league is shared with the Russian by Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon, who also earned $17.5 million.

Ovechkin ranks second on the list of the best snipers in NHL history behind Canadian Wayne Gretzky. The Russian has 822 goals scored. He surpassed Canadian Gordie Howe, who was in third place, in this indicator.

Ovechkin has played in the NHL since 2005. He spent all seasons in North America with Washington. Together with the club, the hockey player won the Stanley Cup in 2018.
