16-year-old Mirra Andreeva climbed 379 places in the WTA rankings over the course of a year
16-year-old Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva rose in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings by 379 positions over the course of a year. The updated list is published on the organization’s website.
On October 9, 2022, the athlete was in 429th place. She currently ranks 50th. Thus, Andreeva entered the top 50 of the WTA rankings for the first time in her career. The best Russian woman is still Daria Kasatkina, who currently occupies 12th position.
On August 2, Andreeva spoke about a possible change of citizenship. According to the tennis player, she does not plan to play for another country. “Due to the tennis schedule, the training process is now mainly organized in Cannes, I have a regular student visa. I’m flying home to Krasnoyarsk for the holidays,” Andreeva said.
The WTA and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) did not suspend Russians from competitions. Athletes continue to compete at tournaments in a neutral status.
