The International MMA Federation will not allow Russians to participate in tournaments until the end of 2023
The International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) spoke about the admission of Russian athletes to competitions in 2023. TASS reports this.
“No such decision is planned for 2023,” the organization said. Thus, Russians will not be able to compete in tournaments under the auspices of IMMAF until the end of 2023.
On May 6, Russian mixed-style fighter (MMA) Fedor Emelianenko spoke about a split in IMMAF due to a discussion of the possible lifting of the ban of Russians. “The trouble is that the leadership of the federation is inclined to refrain from our return. But most [федераций] after all, for the return of the Russians,” said Emelianenko.
On March 28, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that Belarusians and Russians who did not support the special operation in Ukraine be allowed to compete in neutral status. At the same time, athletes from Russia and Belarus associated with the armed forces or security agencies of their countries are recommended to be excluded from participation in competitions.
