Taktarov said that the US is not afraid of politics after the UFC allowed the Russian flag
Mixed style fighter (MMA) and film actor Oleg Taktarov appreciated the decision of the management of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) to allow fighters, including Russians, to enter fights with the flags of their countries. His words are quoted by Sport24.
The athlete said that no one in the United States has ever been afraid of politics, emphasizing that the UFC is a private company with a huge staff of lawyers who can legalize the situation. “And the fact that five Ukrainians who don’t pay to watch anyway will stop watching the UFC doesn’t matter for profits,” he added.
On October 8, UFC head Dana White announced the return of flags to tournaments. He added that he doesn’t care what others think, adding that if any flags hurt their feelings, that’s too damn bad.
In 2022, the UFC banned fighters from fighting with flags, not wanting to create political tension. More than five Russian fighters are in the top 15 in different weight categories. Islam Makhachev is the current UFC lightweight champion.
